NILE RIVER

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Location Of The River:
Approximately 4,000 miles from East Africa to the Mediterranean.(Stretching North)

Description Of the River:
The Nile River flows from the mountains in the south to the Mediterranean in the north. Along most of its length through Egypt, the Nile has scoured a deep, wide gorge in the desert plateau. In addition to the Valley and the Delta, the Nile River also divided Egypt into the Eastern and Western Deserts. The Nile ends in a large delta that empties into the Mediterranean Sea.

Social and political Background of the river:(Myths & legends)
From ancient times, the Nile water was swollen by monsoon rain in Ethiopia and was flooded over the surrounding valley every year between June and September of the modern calendar. A nilometer was used to measure the height of the Nile in extremely old times. It usually consisted of series steps against which the increasing height of the Inundation, as well as the general level of the river, could be measured. Records of the maximum height were kept. Surviving nilometers exist and are connected with the temples at Philae which is on the Nubian Egyptian border, Edfu, Esna, Kom Ombo, and Dendera, as well as the best-known nilometer on the island of Elephantine at Aswan.
The ancient Egyptian calendar is made up of twelve months of 30 days each, was divided into three seasons, based upon the cycles of the Nile. The three seasons were akhet, Inundation, peret, the growing season and shemu ; the drought or harvest season.

Uses Of The River:
Hydro-electricity
Water for drinking.
Water for crop irrigation.
Water for domestic supply.
Water for industrial use.
Transportation.
Tourism.
Leisure.
Waste disposal.
Fishing.

Physical features Of The River:
Tributaries and distributaries. There are two great tributaries of the Nile.
the only remaining major tributary is the Atbara River, which is around 800 kilometres (500 mi) long. It flows only while there is rain in Ethiopia and dries very fast. It joins the Nile River approximately 300 kilometres (200 mi) north of Khartoum.
The Nile River is pretty unusual that its last tributary, the Atbara, is roughly joining halfway to the sea. From that point north, the Nile River diminishes because of evaporation.

Reflection:
From my point of view,I have learnt that where does Nile River came from and what is Nile River. This is only for my general knowledge. This topic makes want to learn more about other rivers too. I manage to remain open with continuous learning and think flexibly when I do my work. This work is also for having creation, imagination and innovation. How cool is that? I'm willing to learn more about it. I have made some effort to do this quite acceptable.
